Open House Shows Off Laser Cutting System at FVMT

01.27.2006
June 27, 2006
Fox Valley Metal-Tech., Inc. held an Open House to demonstrate the latest addition to its metal fabricating capabilities. The installation of two 4000 watt Mitsubishi laser cutting machines with an automated eight bay, 91 shelf storage and retrieve system is on display for all to see. The storage and retrieval system can store 200 tons material and handle 5 ft. x 10 ft. plates that are 1 inch thick. The system is the largest of its kind in the United States. The automation includes the ability to run two lasers with two different materials at the same time. The system receives scheduled jobs with cutting programs via the company’s internal network and automatically retrieves materials, loads materials to the appropriate laser cutter and off-loads finished product on to 4 off-load tables using robotic material handling equipment. The system can run lights-out and can process 44,000 pounds of material before an operator must remove finished parts from the system.  One operator can run the entire system and still have time to do other operations.

The Open House included several seminars including a discussion lead by Fox Valley Metal-Tech., Inc. Vice President of Operations, Steve Corbeille on the topic of “Automation in a Shortrun Environment”. The seminars also discussed the software controls of the system, the flexibility and modular automation with the storage and retrieval system, and the latest in laser technology. Trips to Lambeau Field and Green Bay Packers’ Hall of Fame were provided and followed by a reception at Lambeau Field.
