President Bush Visits FVMT
Green Bay, WI – August 10, 2006
President George W. Bush came to the Green Bay area for a visit that included a stop at Fox Valley Metal-Tech., Inc. to tour the facility and talk with employees. Although the President’s day was filled with scheduled events, some measures had to be taken that were not on his original schedule. The President addressed the nation regarding reports on an interrupted terrorism plot that had everyone in the area concerned for the President’s safety and if he would still be able to make his planned appearance. After addressing the failed terrorism plots he continued on from Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International Airport to Fox Valley Metal-Tech., Inc.
Much preparation can be expected when the President of the United States is going to make public appearances, and Fox Valley Metal-Tech, Inc. was no exception. Extensive plans were made for precisely what the President would see and everything that would be said. Employee background checks were made prior to the visit and lists of guests were also checked. Security was in place and a bomb sweep was performed just prior to the visit. The preparation was executed very professionally and all the necessary items were addressed including communications, emergency exits, safe havens, path of the tour, locations for the press and everything else imaginable including the armored cars, helicopters and armed guards on the roof top of the company.
The President made a quick entrance with two armored limousines pulling inside of the building. The secret service made a quick scan of the area before letting the President join the anxiously waiting welcoming committee. The introductions were made and the tour began. It did not take long before the President veered from the planned route to shake hands and talk with workers. Company President John West led President Bush on a company tour stopping to chat with employees. President Bush was all smiles after manufacturing a part on one of the large precision press brakes. “Just shows you can teach an old dog news tricks,” he said to the press and other onlookers.
The President concluded the visit with a brief speech on the economy and the importance of small businesses like Fox Valley Metal-Tech., Inc. “The reason why this company is successful is, one, they’ve got a good product. But, more importantly, they’ve got a work force that is skilled and capable and treated well.”
